Froyo Granola Donuts – healthy donuts for breakfast
Yesterday I came back home from my two weeks California holiday. The time went by too fast. We made a trip starting from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It was the best holiday we have ever had. I knew it before that it will be awesome, but I hadn’t had a clue how super awesome it really was.
We ate lots of burgers, tacos, wraps, lobster rolls, donuts, cinnamon buns, frozen custard, soft serve, and so on. We were at the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, Carmel by Sea, Hearst Castle, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and so on.
It was literally the most exciting holiday ever. We were a bit sad as our holiday was over and were on our way to the Los Angeles Airport. California we’ll be back!
After coming home, I had to face the ugly truth. I stood on the scale and realized that I’d gained 4 lbs. Although all the good food was worth it, I knew that I have to get rid of these extra pounds. So I made these delicious and sugar-free Froyo Granola Donuts. Yay, donuts for breakfast again. But healthy donuts!
How to make frozen yogurt
You just need 3 ingredients for homemade frozen yogurt. Greek yogurt, vanilla bean, maple syrup. Whisk the yogurt with the vanilla bean and the maple syrup just until combined. You can do it with a whisk or with a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment.
I highly recommend using Greek yogurt. The taste of Greek yogurt is most suitable for homemade frozen yogurt. Because Greek yogurt contains a small amount of cream (at least the original one from Greek), its taste is very mild and creamy compared to regular yogurt. Perfect for froyo!
Healthy donuts made out of homemade frozen yogurt
I think with the words healthy + donuts you are as much excited as I am. I know that these donuts are not our loved baked goodies, but nothing can compete with healthy donuts. Technically they are donuts because they look like donuts. It counts.
When you bite into these healthy donuts made out of homemade frozen yogurt they are literally melting in your mouth. Together with the crunchy granola…unbeatable. Eat them for breakfast or dessert. They are THE perfect summer dessert as well.

- 1 cup granola (120g)
- 1 3/4 cups Greek yogurt (240g)
- 1 tbsp + 2 tsp maple syrup
- 1 vanilla bean
Add 1 tsp of granola in each cavity of a 6 cavity donut pan. Set aside.
Whisk Greek yogurt with one tablespoon of maple syrup and vanilla* until combined. Set aside. Pour two teaspoon of maple syrup over the remaining granola and stir until all of the granola is moistened and set aside.
Spoon yogurt equally into the six cavities and sprinkle granola on top. Push granola with the back of a spoon into the yogurt until it's level with the pan. Cover pan tightly with plastic film. Freeze for at least 4 hours or up to 1 week.
*First, cut off the straight end of the vanilla bean. Then place the tip of your sharp knife below the curled end and cut the vanilla bean through the middle of the bean lengthwise. Although you don't need to cut it all the way through, it's ok when you do so. Then open the vanilla bean and scrape out the flavorful seeds with the back of your knife. Then just use the seeds.
