Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried chili peppers (you can choose your preferred type of chili depending on the level of spiciness you want)
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar (apple cider or white vinegar)
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon oregano

Instructions

  • Remove the stems from your dried chilies. If you want to reduce the heat level, you can also remove the seeds. Soak the dried chilies in boiling water for about 20-30 minutes to soften them. Make sure all chilies are submerged under water.
  • Once the chilies are softened, drain them and add them to a blender or food processor. Also, add in the peeled garlic cloves, salt, vinegar, cumin, and oregano.
  • Blend all the ingredients together until you get a smooth paste. You might need to scrape the sides of the blender or processor a few times to make sure everything gets blended well.
  • Transfer the paste to a pan and cook it over medium heat for 5-10 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Keep stirring it frequently to avoid it getting stuck to the bottom of the pan.
  • Allow the chili paste to cool down before transferring it into a glass jar. Store the jar in the refrigerator. The paste can be kept for up to a month.

Notes

Please note that homemade chili paste can be quite spicy, so use it sparingly until you know how much heat it adds to your dishes. Enjoy your homemade chili paste!
