Trim the tough ends of the asparagus spears, removing at least 1 inch (2.5cm) to eliminate the woody and unpleasant part, and aim to make the asparagus spears equal in length. Don't throw away the trimmings as they can be used in soups and broths.
Use a vegetable peeler to peel the asparagus starting about 1cm below the tip. Peel thoroughly as the top layer becomes very tough after cooking.
Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Add the asparagus to the bowl with the spices and gently toss to ensure each spear is evenly coated.
Arrange the asparagus spears in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overlapping, to allow even cooking.
Cook for approximately 8 minutes, flipping the asparagus halfway through the cooking time.
When the asparagus becomes tender and easily pierced with a fork, it's ready. The cooking time may vary slightly depending on the specific model of the air fryer and your desired asparagus texture.
Serve the cooked asparagus hot, optionally garnished with lemon slices.
