Leek Substitute
Leeks have a mild, sweet flavor, but you can easily replicate it with ingredients you likely have on hand. My homemade leek substitute is perfect for soups, stews, and casseroles.

- ½ cup chopped green onions (scallions)
- ½ cup celery, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon olive oil or butter
- 1-2 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder for extra flavor
Chop the green onions and celery into fine pieces.
In a pan, heat the olive oil (or butter) over medium heat.
Sauté the green onions and celery for 2-3 minutes, until softened.
If desired, add garlic or onion powder to enhance the flavor.
Use as a substitute for leeks in any recipe that calls for them.
