Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (white or cane sugar)
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan.
  • Heat over medium, stirring frequently until the sugar fully dissolves. Do not let it boil.
  • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • Store in a clean glass jar or bottle. Keep refrigerated for up to 1 month.

Ratio:

  • 1:1 (equal parts) sugar to water = standard simple syrup
  • For a thicker syrup (richer), use 2:1 ratio – 2 cups sugar to 1 cup water

Notes

Best Uses:

  • Cocktail recipes (e.g., mojitos, old fashioneds, margaritas)
  • Iced coffee and tea
  • Baked goods (e.g., brushing cake layers for moisture)
  • Fruit glazes and sauces

Optional Add-Ins for Flavor:

  • Fresh herbs (mint, rosemary, thyme)
  • Citrus peel (lemon, lime, orange)
  • Vanilla bean or cinnamon stick
(Add during cooking, then strain before storing.)
Tip: Simple syrup blends effortlessly into cold drinks and avoids gritty sugar at the bottom—no more endless stirring!
