Why You Will Love This Recipe

Here’s why I keep going back to making mince in the air fryer:
- Minimal mess: No greasy stovetop splatters—everything cooks neatly inside the container.
- Even cooking: The hot air circulates around the mince, breaking it down into perfectly browned crumbles.
- Quick and easy: Dinner is ready in minimal time, leaving you to relax with your family after dinner.
- Versatile base: Use the cooked mince for tacos, spaghetti, nachos, wraps, or even meal prep bowls.
- Hands-off cooking: I don’t have to babysit the pan—I just shake the basket once or twice, or mix it in the container, and it’s done.
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

- Mince (ground beef): I usually go for lean beef mince, but regular mince works too. You can also swap for ground chicken, turkey, or lamb.
- Seasonings: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika are most people’s favorite basics. You can use taco seasoning, Italian herbs, or even curry spices depending on what you’re making. (See the recipe below for the exact spices and ingredients I used in my tacos recipe).
- Oil spray: Just a light spritz helps prevent sticking and helps when browning. (Optional if you are not using an air fryer safe container).
- Extras: Onions, peppers, or mushrooms can be mixed in for added flavor. Just chop them small so they cook evenly.

Swaps:
- Want it saucy? Add a couple of spoonfuls of tomato paste or soy sauce halfway through cooking.

Step by Step

1. Preheat
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–4 minutes.
2. Break up the mince
Add raw mince straight into the basket or use an air fryer safe container. Break it up slightly with a spatula or spoon. (Optional - add the onion). Season with your chosen spices.
3. First cook
Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8 minutes. Halfway through, open the basket and break up the mince some more so that it cooks evenly.
4. Finish cooking
Cook for another 5–7 minutes, stirring once more before. The mince should be browned all over and no longer pink.
5. Drain & serve
If you are using a fattier mince, drain off the excess grease. Use immediately in tacos, pasta sauce, nachos, or any recipe that calls for browned mince.
Expert Tips

- Don’t overcrowd: If you’re making a large amount, cook the mince in two rounds. Overcrowding the container or basket keeps it from browning properly.
- Stir a couple of times: Stirring or breaking up halfway helps avoid big clumps and uneven cooking.
- Batch cook: I like to make extra mince and store it in the fridge—it reheats really well.
- Additional flavor: Add minced garlic or onion powder/or flakes before cooking for an extra punch.

Cooking mince in the air fryer is fast, clean, and gives you perfectly browned mince every single time. Whether you’re making tacos on a busy weeknight or prepping a big batch for meal prep, this method never fails. Once you try it, I doubt you’ll want to go back to the frying pan!
Recipe

Mince In Air Fryer With Tacos
Equipment
- Air fryer (I used a 6-quart basket)
- air fryer safe container (this is not a must but it is preferable for minimal cleanup afterwards. You can place the mince directly in the air fryer basket)
- Spatula or wooden spoon
- Measuring bowl or jug
Ingredients
- 500 g beef mince (or chicken, turkey, or lamb)
- 200 g cheese
- spices a pinch of barbeque spice + mixed herbs, salt & pepper to taste
- 200 g tacos I used Santa Anna’s organic crispy Taco shells
- 50 g tomato paste
- 1 medium onion
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic (crushed)
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
- olive oil spray (optional when not using a container)
- 34 g instant gravy packet I used Knorr Roast meat gravy
Instructions
- Preheat: Heat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Load: Add your mince to the container, break it up slightly, add the chopped onion, garlic, and spices. I used exactly 1.1 lb (500 g) of mince for this recipe.
- Cook: Air fry for 8 minutes. Stir halfway through at 4 minutes, and add the tomato paste. Stir the mince well with a wooden spoon.
- Finish: Cook the mince for another 5–7 minutes, stirring once more until the mince is nicely browned. (I did use the full 7 minutes).
- Check doneness: The mince should all be brown, there should be no pink pieces anywhere.
- Gravy: Mix the roast meat instant gravy in a measuring bowl or jug. Where your normal instant gravy would require you to mix the powder with 250 ml boiling water, use 150ml instead, as you do not want a very runny sauce (you want to bind the mince).
- Mix well: Add the gravy to the mince and mix it well.
- Taco time: Place the tacos upright in the air fryer basket, and place the mince inside the tacos.
- Add Cheese: Place the cheese on top of the mince, not on the sides as the cheese will automatically run down the sides while cooking.
- Grill time: Cook the tacos for an additional 5 minutes in the air fryer. (You will need to cook it for 6-7 minutes checking in between if you want the cheese to be a darker brown).
- Serve: Serve and eat them while they’re hot!
Notes
- Lean mince cooks faster and produces less grease.
- For frozen mince, add 3–4 extra minutes.
- Leftovers: Store in fridge for 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
- (The spices are up to you, you can also use cumin, paprika, lemon pepper, oregano, etc according to your preferences).
