Try These Delicious Baked Apples with Oatmeal and Cinnamon
This baked apples with cinnamon recipe reminds me of a cross between apple crisp and baked apple recipes. This recipe is packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, too!
Why You’ll Love It
- Warm and cozy: The smell of cinnamon and apples baking is simply divine.
- Perfect Texture: What you get are soft apples with a buttery oat topping that has a yummy crunch.
- Simple ingredients: You only need 7 pantry staples to make this recipe. You can also use almond milk, non-dairy milk, and coconut sugar for special dietary needs. No eggs required!
Ingredients

- Apples: I like using firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith because they hold well while baking.
- Rolled oats: This gives you the crumble-like filling and adds great texture.
- Brown sugar: Gives the filling a caramel-like sweetness.
- Cinnamon spices: This is needed for the classic baked cinnamon apples flavor.
How to Make Baked Apples with Oatmeal and Cinnamon
1. Take one apple, peel the skin, and chop it. Then place the apple in a small bowl and sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Give it a quick stir to combine, then set aside.
2. Combine quick oats, cream cheese, milk, maple syrup, ¾ teaspoon of cinnamon, and vanilla in a large bowl.
Tip: You can add a pinch of salt if you like to give a slightly different flavor.

3. Fold the chopped apples into the oat mixture. You can see that the filling is creamy and has lovely chunks of fresh apples too.
4. Carefully, slice the tops off the 4 remaining apples. Hollow out the centers until they have about a 0.5-inch thickness.

5. Spoon the filling into the apples and place them on a baking sheet or in a casserole baking dish, and cook for 18-20 minutes. Serve this snack warm.

Recipe Tips
- Steel-cut oats are not a good substitute for this recipe, as they give a different texture.
- I always choose apples that are similar in size so they bake evenly, and I prefer Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for this baked apple cinnamon oatmeal recipe.
- If the tops start browning too quickly, loosely tent the dish with foil for the last part of the baking.
- A little bit of chopped pecan, bananas, almonds, nutmeg, or sprinkled walnut added to the filling makes these even better.
What Can You Serve With This?
- Vanilla ice cream
- Whipped cream
- Caramel sauce
- Greek yogurt
- Hot coffee
FAQs
I personally love Honeycrisp because they stay juicy without turning mushy, but Granny Smith works beautifully too if you prefer a slightly tart flavor.
Baked apples taste their best when they are served right away. If you aren't able to eat them all, then you can cover them with plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator. They will last 2-3 days. To reheat them at 325 degrees for 10-15 minutes until hot. You can also microwave them for 30-60 seconds or so until they are warm as well.
Yes. You can assemble the apples earlier in the day and refrigerate them until ready to bake.
The apples should feel tender when pierced with a knife, but they shouldn’t completely collapse.
