Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: The base that gives structure to the pancakes.
  • Sugar: Adds a light sweetness without making them too sweet.
  • Baking powder & baking soda: Help the pancakes rise and stay fluffy.
  • Salt: Balances the sweetness and enhances the flavor.
  • Egg: Helps bind everything together.
  • Buttermilk: Gives a soft texture and slight tang, which I really like.
  • Butter: Adds richness and keeps the pancakes tender.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • I like how hands-off this is: I don’t have to stand there flipping constantly.
  • Less mess: No oil splatter, no pan to clean.
  • Still fluffy: The texture is soft and exactly what I want in pancakes.
  • Great for busy mornings: I can get other things done while they cook.
  • Easy to scale: I just repeat batches depending on how many people I’m feeding.

Expert Tip: I always avoid overmixing the batter. It’s tempting, but it makes the pancakes dense instead of soft.

Recipe Tips

  • I don’t overmix the batter, just enough to combine everything.
  • I always preheat the air fryer so the pancakes cook evenly.
  • I use parchment paper every time, it makes removal so much easier.

What Can You Serve With These?

  • Maple syrup
  • Fresh fruit
  • Whipped cream
  • Yogurt

FAQs

Can I use a pancake mix instead of making the batter from scratch?

Yes, you can use a pancake mix instead of making the batter from scratch. Simply follow the instructions on the pancake mix package and adjust the amount of liquid as needed to achieve a batter consistency similar to the recipe.

Can I add fruit or chocolate chips to the batter?

Yes, you can add your favorite fruits or chocolate chips to the batter. We recommend adding a maximum of ⅓ cup of your favorite mix-ins.

Can I freeze leftover pancakes?

Yes, they freeze well for up to 3 months if stored in freezer bags. Allow them to cool completely, then wrap them individually in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe bag. They can be reheated in the microwave or air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 1-2 minutes.

Do I need to flip them?

Flipping the pancakes is recommended, but if you prefer not to flip them, that’s perfectly fine.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Separate bowl
  • Air Fryer
  • Parchment Paper

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, and melted butter until combined.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk just until combined.

Notes

Ingredients Substitutions

  • Buttermilk: If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a quick substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes until it curdles.
  • Baking Powder and Baking Soda: If you don't have baking powder, you can substitute it with ¼ teaspoon of baking soda and ½ teaspoon of cream of tartar. If you don't have baking soda, you can substitute it with 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder.

Top Tips for Success

  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter can result in tough and dense pancakes. Mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined.
  • Preheat your air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to ensure that it's hot enough to cook the pancakes evenly.
  • Use parchment paper: Use parchment paper to line the pan before cooking the pancakes. This will make it easier to remove the pancakes and prevent them from sticking to the pan.
  • Flip the pancakes in air fryer carefully: Use a thin spatula or turner to flip the pancakes carefully to avoid breaking them.

Cooking Time and Temperature

I cook these at 350°F (175°C) for about 4–6 minutes total per batch. I always check early to get the texture I want.

Serving Recommendations

I usually keep it simple with syrup or fruit.
Sometimes I add yogurt or whipped cream if I want something a bit more filling.

Proper Storage Tips

  • Let pancakes cool before storing.
  • Keep in an airtight container.
  • Reheat before serving.

Pro Tips

  • Don’t overmix the batter.
  • Always preheat the air fryer.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
