Orange Curd Bars

Orange Curd Bars – your taste buds will go crazy

One of the two most popular recipes here on my blog is this Best Ever Lemon Custard Bars recipe. It is every month the most or second most clicked recipe. I can totally understand this. I’m also in love with this recipe. The sour and sweet taste is awesome.

I thought it is a good idea to get you more of what you love. These Orange Curd Bars are crazy. I mean, they are so freakin’ delicious, your taste buds will go crazayyy. It’s hard to say this, but I love them more than my beloved Lemon Custard Bars. They are both awesome, don’t get me wrong, but these Orange Curd Bars are beyond, beyond delicious.

Orange Curd Bars

It’s not possible to stop

Be prepared that it is not possible to stop at one piece. No way! The orange-y flavor makes you addicted. Actually, this is the correct expression for this. Addictive! Super addictive. This tangy, and sweet flavor is out of this world.

Orange Curd Bars

Custard-like consistency

The filling is custard-like and creamy. Because of the high amount of orange juice, the filling is rich in flavor. Together with a good amount of flour and eggs, the filling is creamy but firm.

I reduced the amount of butter in the crust for this recipe, compared to my Lemon Bars recipe. It turned out great. The crust is not too buttery and also not crumbly. My new go-to shortbread crust recipe!

Orange Curd Bars

Method

There is not that much to say about the method. Super easy nails it. Prepare the shortbread crust in the food processor and transfer the crumbs to a baking pan. Bake crust for about 18-20 minutes until golden brown.

For the filling, you just need one bowl. Woohoo. Because, who likes to wash up, right? Or even fill the dish washer….? Just mix everything together according to the recipe and pour onto crust. Then bake until filling is set.

I used fresh orange juice because I prefer the taste. But if you don’t want to press orange juice by yourself, you can also use store bought 100% pure orange juice (without added sugar or anything).

Irresistible Orange Curd Bars with just 9 ingredients and 10 minutes prep time. Super easy and made from scratch. The strong orange flavor will kick you.

Servings: 16 bars
Author: Also The Crumbs Please
Ingredients
Shortbread crust
  • 2 cups flour (240g)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50g)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup cold butter (170g)
Orange curd
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar (200g)
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 cup flour (120g)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (240ml)
Powder sugar and orange zest to sprinkle on top
    Instructions
    1. Preheat oven to 350° F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Set aside.

    2. Shortbread crust: Place flour, sugar, salt, and butter in a food processor and pulse for about 10 times until coarse structure. Transfer crumbs to the prepared baking pan and press with your fingers into the pan evenly. Bake for about 18-20 minutes until golden brown. Then remove from oven and let cool until you are finished with the orange curd filling. Don't turn off the oven.

    3. Orange curd: Meanwhile beat eggs, orange zest, and sugar in a large mixing bowl with a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until sugar is completely dissolved. Add flour and mix just until incorporated. Slowly add orange juice and mix on low speed just until combined. Pour onto crust. Bake for about 30-35 minutes until filling is set. Cover with parchment paper for the first 20 minutes to prevent browning too much.

    4. Let cool completely then transfer to the fridge. Before serving, sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar and orange zest. The Orange Curd Bars will stay fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.

Looks wonderful! But you have some typos! The header on the story is called “Orange Curd Bars” but the recipe panel reads “Orange Custard Bars”. And in the bottom paragraph in the instructions, you call them “Lemon Custard Bars”. All that said, I’ll likely make them as soon as I go get some oranges!

I’m so sorry! Thank you so much for telling me. Firstly, I wanted to name them Orange Custard Bars but decided then to rewrite the post and named them Orange Curd Bars. Because I also made a recipe called Lemon Custard Bars what this recipe is based on, it seems that I was a bit confused while I rewrote the original recipe. So sorry! I hope you enjoy them anyway! Have a great day.
